If you’re struggling to get credit then you may need to improve your credit record. Credit agencies will use your credit information and score it in different ways. But here are some easy ways that you can help improve your credit score.

1) Ensure the information held on your credit history record is correct. The two main credit file companies are Experian and Equifax and you can obtain copies of your credit record from them

2) Ensure your addresses on all your with all financial, telecoms, utilities companies etc are correct - if you are recorded as living at several different addresses then this will count against you on your credit record

3) This one should be obvious, but make sure you pay your bills on time. Late payments and defaults can really count against you. The easiest way to do this is to ensure you have Direct Debits set up so you never forget to pay.

4) Don’t apply for credit too often.   Every time you apply for credit a record is left on your file. If you apply frequently then it looks like you are in financial difficulty and nobody will want to offer you credit. Remember even getting a mobile phone or often paying for insurance over installments usually requires a credit search.

5) Close down credit facilities that you don’t need. Having some credit and being able to show that you handle it well can help your credit record. However, having too much credit makes people ask - why do they need more? It gives nagging doubts

It’s really easy to get a copy of your credit record and hopefully the tips I have listed above will help you to improve yours, even if it doesn’t look to good just now.

Using tips like these I have been able to cut my bills by over 3000 pounds a year. You can slash your bills too.
